(NOTE) This is NOT my final internship, just my career day. Seeing as I am in Ireland for internship, I couldn't do my career day there. Simon T. Cross Rancho Santa Fe Village Apartments Property Manager 1st period teacher: Courtney King First Impressions: As for the property it was affordable housing, meaning it was nothing special. That being said the place of work was really nice, clean and tidy. It smelled nice, had a few potted plants and just kinda oozed business comfort. Typical Work Day: The typical work day is dealing with older folks and their constant complaining. Because some of them also have mental disabilities it also makes it very difficult to reason with them. Other than that there is a lot of running paper work, requesting work orders and otherwise being the middle man between the boss/owner of the property and the tenants. Who will you interact with on a daily? To be honest this is really difficult question to answer. Seeing as I will probably not be going back for a lil while I couldn't say with any certainty who I would interact with every day. Probably Holly (the Sight Manager) and Ted (the maintenance manager) Business Policies? As for things like tardiness and what not it's incredibly relaxed. Hours aren't necessarily set. As long as you get the job done then there is an amazing amount of flexibility. As for things like professionally it's rather lax as well. If you are in good standings with the tenants then you can speak to them on a more friendly basis. Dress Code? Dress code is technically "business casual" but it is not strictly followed. I wore casual clothing and so did Holly. If I was to work their for an extended period of time I wouldn't be in too much of bind. Reflection of day: All in all it was a rather fun day. From the stories I heard, and the people I met I could understand how every. single. day would be different in some way. There is a surprise around every corner so it would be interesting in that sense. That being said even just after I day I can honestly say this would probably not be the profession I will seek. It is a very thankless, high stress job. The benefits include free housing and whatnot but is that worth it? Maybe, I'm not sure. I would be totally fine doing this for a month but I couldn't do it for much more than that. Having someone to talk to was really nice and I could see how without that this could be a very lonely job. How do high school classes help you with this job? And which ones? Math: Math doesn't really play much of a part in this profession. However the "don't stop till you succeed" mindset needed to be good at math is also necessary in the this job. Humanities: There is a decent amount of writing involved so probably writing skills could be used. Bio: Literally this has nothing to do with bio or anything similar to bio. This was my first blog post, all other blog posts should be longer, with more of my actual internship involved. |
