A Photo Exhibition of My WorkOverview: A group of photos showing the work I've been doing in the last 4 weeks. Essentially it's a "photo essay", a much more interactive way of showing what I've accomplished. Under each photo will be a caption to explain in some detail what is going on in the photo.

it comes to being speedy. A lot of the work required attention to detail, and I'm not very fast. At least not yet. Speed will come with time and practice.
strange, and a little bit hard to swallow. It's always a difficult shift to change your life goals. It's a little sad, because now I have to fall back on my plan B, but I'm glad I'm realising it now, and not in a year when I've committed to it completely.

Personal Reflection
How is your experience shaping your thoughts about your future career path?
I am finding myself enjoying the analytic side of the work I'm doing. I knew I enjoyed that already, but I'm finding new ways to incorporate that enjoyment into a real life scenario. It's quite enjoyable. How would you compare your current experience to last year’s internship? This internship is strange, not the work itself but just the overall experience. The novelty of being in a new country has completely worn off. I know the area, I know the people, so a lot of that "excitement" is gone, and it has been replaced with an overall sense of contentment. I love the area, I love the people. I don't know it's a totally different feel to the experience. My Internship Project
where the money is coming from, i.e; Cigs, confectionary products, etc. This will allow them to then estimate their total earnings for next year and budget accordingly. What skills do you need in order for it to meet/exceed your mentor’s expectations? The skills needed aren't much of anything. It's all simply analytical work, and a LOT of data entry. I guess patients? It will take me probably another week of work to input all the data points, and then more time to decipher what the points mean. It's time consuming, and you need to be able to see the end goal, or else you'll just get swamped.
Mentor Interview: Interviewing: Amy Coyne 1.) How did you end up doing the job that you do? Well, I used to work in reception, but I was given this job when the last girl left. I came into this when things we're super organised, so I've been do a lot of clean up work. 2.) So what does your day look like most of the time? It changes every single day. I pay people their wages, I pay companies for products the hotel or siopa (shop), and a lot of people have work for me to do. I am kind of a do all, I can cover what ever you need! 3.) You mentioned a lot of clean up work, what does that mean? Well, this company grew, and grew really fast! The things that you could overlook as a small company can no longer be overlooked. You need to be organised with a large company like this or else your company can go under. 4.) What do you enjoy most about this job? When those numbers finally crunch the right way, and things finally line up the way they're supposed to, that is so satisfying! Internship Reflection:
I picked up the phone and said "Hello?" The lady on the other end said "Oh you must be Simon! How's the work experience going?" Turns out this lady happened to be local to the area and knew from word of mouth I was here, knew my name, and my accent. It makes
First Day; First Impressions!
the hotel for a couple days before we moved to the house we will be staying in for the rest of the trip, and before I even started working there people were welcoming me in, and knew me by name and face. It was very impressive, and it made me feel very welcome, even before I began work. What strikes you most about the job you're doing? Well for one thing, I'm not doing one specific job, which I appreciate. I'm all over the place, in a different place each week. I've already worked a few days already and I've been working in a ton of different areas. That being said, all of what I do I find interesting! I probably will NEVER get into the career of filing VAT (value added tax) taxes for people because it is VERY repetitive, but it was still interesting to do. I am enjoying every part of this internship so far.
Getting Ready:
She overlooks all the goings on, and also runs a few different shops around the
Cor-na-mona area. 3.) Daily Responsibilities -My responsibilities are going to be a myriad of different things. I am not totally sure everything, but it will probably be a lot of upkeep seeing as the hotel will be in the down season. As for my project, I am not totally sure yet, I will figure that out as it goes on. 4.) What am excited about? I am going to Ireland!!!! I am so excited, I love the country and I know a bunch of the people I will be working with on a friendly basis. I will learn so much about what it means to run a business, especially a family one. It is going to be a LOT of fun, and I am going to have a great time. |
